PROBLEM
In Latin America, less than 10% of the 197 million tons of Urban Solid Waste (USW) generated annually are recycled. The waste issue affects us all as a society. With over 600 million inhabitants in the region, we’re stuck in a linear economy cycle.
For glass packaging alone, 12 million tons contribute to this issue, with less than 5% being recovered. The rest ends up buried, taking over 10,000 years to degrade.
SOLUTION
Reciqlo supports communities, organizations, and governments in promoting and innovating recycling systems, aiming for a sustainable circular economy. We’ve developed an ecosystem where recycling is effectively and meaningfully rewarded, with publicly traceable, tamper-proof, and unchangeable solutions (blockchain). Our goal is to increase recycling rates, fostering virtuous circles of circular economy and reducing greenhouse gas emissions, water footprint, and raw material extraction.
SILKONG
Silkong is a soil enhancer made from 100% circular economy glass packaging-derived Silicon.
It improves soil health for crops by aggregating soil particles to better retain water and air, fortifying plants against drought, cold, soil salinity, and diseases. It enhances nutrient absorption by roots and reduces heavy metal absorption in contaminated soils.
IMPACT
Glass recycling generates cullet for new packaging, Silicon substrate, and urban furniture. Each ton of cullet saves 38% energy, reduces CO2 emissions by 53%, decreases water footprint (up to 40%), and cuts raw material extraction by 60%. Reciqlo aims to recycle 1,000 tons per month.
2024
Stage 1 Validate Silkong for use in extensive agribusiness.
Stage 2 Pour on-chain traceability into the system.
2025
Stage 3 Launch of the native Reciqlo token.
Stage 4 Commercial or productive agreement for the Silkong product.
